So basically if I am not reading the postings of this blog no one will bother to make a comment. I am stuck in Holland for the moment; I was counting to come to Lebanon to spend the rest of my vacation, but it seems that I will be coming back to Riyadh since Beirut international airport is closed until any further notice from whoever will call a cease-fire.
There is no tragedy in being stuck in Amsterdam if you are a Lebanese working in Saudi Arabia; you have some friends here, you get drunk on a daily basis, you live in a consistent state of self-denial and silence, and become more and more less communicative (actually that's the impact of the gulf). Whatever the situation, you are stuck. I wish I could be stuck in Beirut, especially in the current circumstances. I have my favourite memories from the times of the war, when we were children, and I say "we" because the war reminds me of my brother and myself, a brother with whom I share very little today but with whom I shared so much in the past that I cannot but love him.
I wish I could be stuck in Beirut. I know that Anwar is there, and I don't want to speculate about his state of mind, that Antoine is there, and that he is becoming more and more radical every day, that he is becoming schizophrenic, and that I understand that. I know that Nadine is somewhere in the mountains of Lebanon, that she really has nothing much to do, that she might have been somewhere with some group of NGO trying to rescue something or help someone (but she is enjoying summer in he mountains and that makes more sense).
I spent the afternoon today listening to the news. We will beat them. Fuck Pragmatism. Fuck real politick. Fuck the Americans and their hypocrisy. Fuck censorship. Fuck the Europeans. Fuck the Brits who think that they are funny when the they fuck up the world. Fuck the French and the 14th of July. To hell with Israel my friend, to hell with everything. We will stay. We will survive, or will we not? We have survived so far, despite the Iranis who give a fuck about the cause and who are worried about their nuclear weapons and how to get a UN resolution without incuring any serious damages. We have survived despite the Syrians who have sacrificed us for free and for much. I personally like the Syrians, they are truthful, I am not talking about Assad and his clique, I am talking about honest Syrians who think that we should fight and hold on: "Jabhat al soumoud wa al tassadi".
To hell with Lebanon's internal politics. It doesn't count for anything. Congratulations Mr. Sanioura, the position he took was honourable. 56 years of solitude, or is it more??? Soon we will be good enough for a famous novel. Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
How drunk am I at this moment? You can imagine. I am actually listening to Greek music that will soon be translated into Arabic tunes and will make everyone in Lebanon dance and jump. And the bourgeoisie and the middle class will say: "this is what makes Lebanon so special!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have people dying and at the same time people are dancing and singing in night clubs!!!!!!!!!" Yes indeed. This is what makes the bourgeoisie of Lebanon so stupid: That it continues to dance and sing while there are others who are bitter and are fighting with anything they can find, including the support of Iran, Syria, the Faeroe Islands (I have no idea where they are).
There aren't so many options for the moment. As a responsible statesman, Mr. Sanyoura will try to call for international support in the form of arbitration or efforts to secure a cease-fire. Hezbollah is a winner in all cases. I will not analyze the situation. In all cases Hezbollah is a winner. So is Syria. So is (and most of all) Iran. Saudi Arabia is not comfortable with the current equation. They want to back Hammas in Gaza, but they cannot stand the idea of the mistake of having allowed the war in Iraq and the increasing influence of the new nuclear Iran in this area. The Egyptians are playing with their balls. The Syrians are laughing in silence.
Do you want to talk about Walid Junblat? I don't. He does not really fit in the analysis.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have unravelled the conspiracy: the conspiracy was to convince us Arabs that there was no conspiracy. We have uncovered the conspiracy!!!!!!!!! We know that there is a conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 56 years later we have discovered the conspiracy: ERETZ ISRAEL.
The hardest thing to do is to make such a conclusion. The level of alcohol in my blood my justify it, but it takes a little more than alcohol to come up with such a conclusion; it takes a madman. We have unravelled the conspiracy. Allah ma3ak khayyeh Antoine; Allah ma3ak. Ana reji3 3al Riyadh.
